Perfume oil is necessarily diluted with a solvent because undiluted oils (natural or synthetic) contain high concentrations of volatile components that will likely result in allergic reactions and possibly injury when applied directly to skin or clothing. Solvents also vaporize the essential oils, helping to diffuse them into the air. The concentration of perfume oils within fragrances varies. The different concentrations vary. Generally the higher the concentration, the longer your fragrance will last. Although there are other considerations, such as how the fragrance reacts to each individual, here are some guidelines:
Eau Fraiche:
Less than 3% in perfume oils
Also know as perfume mist and sprays, lasts generally 1 hour or less.
Eau de Cologne:
2-4% concentration in perfume oils
Last generally up to 2 hours.
Originally created in Cologne Germany, a fragrance still produced called :4711.
Eau de Toilette:
4-10% concentration in perfume oils.
Lasts generally 3-4 hours.
The most common concentration in fragrances used today.
Eau de Parfum:
8-30% concentration in perfume oils.
Lasts generally 3-5 hours.
A more concentrated and mainly used for women fragrances.
Parfum:
15-40% concentration in perfume oils.
The most concentrated version commonly used.
Lasts generally 6 + hours.
They are generally more expensive but last the longest because of the high concentration in Perfume Oils.
Shower Gels:
Basically liquid perfumed soap, leaving a light scent after use.
Lotions:
Moisturizing and hydrating and perfumed as well. Good base for layering a fragrance.
Cream:
Thicker than Lotion sand more moisturizing, a favorite with persons with dry skin.
Perfumed Talk Powder:
Originally used as a deodorant, used to dry and soften skin.
After shave:
Less than 3% in concentration
Mainly used in Men¿s fragrances.
Has sometimes aloe or other soothing lotions to sooth skin after a shave and alcohol helps disinfect cuts during shaving.
After Shave Balm:
Lightly scented, a balm helps soothe razor burn and keeps your skin feeling cool and hydrated. Recommended for sensitive, normal and dry skins.
Body Oil:
Oil use to moisturize skin as well as for massages. Lightly perfumed.
Deodorant:
Used as antiperspirant and odor combatant, either in spray, solid or liquid form.
